Alyse sails through life with a smile

After representing Australia at multiple Special Olympics for sailing, 34-year-old Alyse is enjoying life at home on the Northern Beaches. She lives independently in a Warriewood apartment with her flatmate James, supported by a team of carers who assist her with everyday tasks like cleaning and shopping. Alyse loves being able to walk to the local shops and bus stops near her flat.

Alyse is a friendly and familiar face to many people on the beaches. She attended Pittwater High School and has had various jobs in the local community.

Alyse also developed a passion for cooking after attending classes at Northside. Learning this valuable skill led to a job preparing meals for people that live alone, and later provided her with employment at an iconic local venue, The Royal Motor Yacht Club.

Alyse participates in Northside’s Day Programs three days a week, and enjoys spending time with her friends through flexible respite outings on the weekend. As someone who has always loved sport, Alyse is an avid fan of the NRL (particularly the Cronulla Sharks) and enjoys going on walks to stay fit and healthy. Moving forward, Alyse would like to improve her communication and technology skills.

At Northside, our mission is to support people with disabilities to enjoy vibrant and inclusive lives, just like Alyse. Our range of fantastic activities and programs help these individuals and their families to experience life to the fullest. Without Northside, many of the people enrolled in our programs, like Alyse, could struggle with social isolation and finding meaningful employment.
